About

Sleevs

in the form of a blurb

Sleevs stands at the intersection of politics and culture, a Washington DC-based professional who works full time in music and full time in the think tank world, with the goal in both realms of supporting the virtues that sustain our free and democratic republic -- because we're all in this together! She is a distinguished researcher and editor at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, and manager of world-touring #1 Billboard bluegrass charting band Gangstagrass, which the New York Times called "the music America needs." Under her government name, Emily Messner, Sleevs was the Washington Post’s first-ever woman blogger, fostering a respectful & engaging comments section of diverse voices. Witnessing the devolution of journalism drove her from the newsroom to Hoover, where she studies the values undergirding rights-protecting democracies worldwide—values close to her heart (and often on display on her arms). Sleevs teaches debate, cleans up rogue plastic, and advocates for the thoughtfulness necessary for our planet and its species to thrive.
